Let's Listen: The "Mister Softee" Ice Cream Truck Theme (Extended)
Mister Softee vintage commercial

Mister Softee is a United States-based ice cream truck franchisor popular in the Northeast. It was founded by William and James Conway (October 30, 1927 – May 28, 2006) in 1956 in Philadelphia. It is one of the largest franchisors of soft ice cream in the United States. It has about 350 franchisees operating 600 trucks in 15 states.

Mister Softee Inc. was founded in 1956. On St. Patricks day of that year, Bill and Jim took their first truck and gave out green colored ice cream in the neighborhoods of West Philadelphia.By 1958 the company had outgrown the building in Philadelphia and moved to the current location in Runnemede, NJ. It is at this location that Mister Softee transforms plain trucks into Americas' most recognizable mobile ice cream vendor.

The jingle played by Mister Softee trucks is instrumental and based on "The Whistler and His Dog" from 1960 by Les Waas. It is written in E-flat major with 6/8 time. However, many of the trucks play a version that sounds almost as if it is transposed up a half step, in E major, though still with the 6/8 time. In New York City, the trucks can only play the jingle while moving, to reduce noise.

I never knew there were lyrics to the Mister Softee song.  Here they are so you can sing along:

Here comes Mister Softee
The soft ice cream man.
The creamiest, dreamiest soft ice cream,
You get from Mister Softee.
For a refreshing delight supreme
Look for Mister Softee.

My milkshakes and my sundaes
And my cones are such a treat.
Listen for my store on wheels
Ding-a-ling down the street.
The creamiest dreamiest soft ice cream,
You get from Mister Softee.
